Back To School

For years I watched and listened to mums pour their hearts out in pain and some with excitement to Back To School season, and I could never relate because my babies were still young! Fast-forward September 2018 when my son was about to start FS1, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. I wasn’t sure how to feel but I knew whatever I felt, my son would sense it and most likely feel the same so I tried to be as calm as possible.

At first it was excitement with Back To School shopping with Adam and getting all his school supplies together. Then as we got closer, the nerves started kicking in. What do I pack in his lunch box? What do I do to make it easier for him? Will he love it? Will he hate it? Trust me when I tell you I had a few sleepless nights trying to answer myself.

As days went by I found other things to keep him happy and excited. For instance after school, we would go play a little and have fun with his sister. Trying out new things that will excite him and keep him going. I let him help me more in the kitchen whether it’s packing his snack boxes or making fun smoothies before / after school with him.

We recently tried out this awesome smoothie recommended by NIDO that we decided to call it the “Little Hero Smoothie” absolutely nutritious, yummy and the perfect drink to have during this back to school season. It is super easy to make and the kids will absolutely love it! I’ll share with you the recipe below so you can try it as well and let us know how your little ones found it. You can also find more healthy & yummy recipes on NIDO Arabia’s Facebook Page

Little Hero Smoothie (Apple and Dates)

Serves: 1 serving

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

1 cup NIDO Milk – Fortified with vitamins and minerals

½ cup plain cornflakes – crunchy and yummy

2 dates pitted – Rich in Antioxidants

½ red apple, peeled – source of dietary fibers

1 tsp of chopped almonds – Source of good fats

For those few minutes helping mama in the kitchen, Adam was less stressed about school and more excited about trying his smoothie. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! We took a few pictures, which of course Adam showed his teacher and friends at school and was super excited to tell them about the Little Hero smoothie that apparently gave him super powers!

My plan for the rest of the year is to continue trying out new recipes and new things with Adam so he looks forward to going to school and talking about them. I also want to work on making him more independent; I believe that will make it easier for him in school as well.

What are you tips and tricks to making Back To School smoother? Any fun recipes you have and do for your little ones?
