I had the pleasure of interviewing the sweet author behind http://www.streetstylesavvy.com Dee Mahmoud.

Dee is one of the few bloggers who show us how to dress modest and look absolutely fashionable & stunning!

Please tell us a bit about yourself..

I’m 23, Somali, raised in Dubai and a modest style blogger.

How did you get into blogging?

I started an Instagram page where I would post photos of myself, months later I was getting follows from girls who dress in modest clothing like myself and were constantly interested in what I was wearing. At the time I was following a lot of bloggers and YouTubers and I was constantly getting requests to start a blog of my own from my followers, which were 2,000 at the time, so I started one.

Tell us about your proudest achievement?

I recently styled 12 looks for AllSaints winter collection. They recently opened their first store in the middle east and I was selected for a special winter/holiday edition social media campaign. They are one of my favorite brands and to get the chance to create content for them was just incredible.

What are the challenges you face of being an Influencer?

I think for me it is when people don’t take blogging/vlogging seriously or assume it doesn’t really require any work at all. It annoys me because we do everything ourselves. We are stylists, editors, photographers, writers and have to attend to emails, make time for meetings/calls with brands, press events, networking events, fashion shows and much more. Not to mention constantly updating our social media channels. It is a lot of work but everyone assumes you just post pretty pictures and get free stuff.

What are the rewards?

Having a creative outlet that I can use freely to express myself and push myself to be innovative and the support from my readers.

What do you find the most frustrating?

Slow wifi lol

Who is you biggest role model and why?

Ascia from Hybrid in a Headpiece.

She’s one of the first modest bloggers I started following and her modest and interesting style inspired me to get creative with the way I dress and start my own blog. Not to mention she is one of the sweetest and down to earth people I’ve met.

Who is your style icon? And why?

I don’t have a style icon but I do follow a lot of stylish people that influence the way I dress.

How do you describe your personal style?

How do you balance between work, family, friends & blogging?

I try to work out a weekly schedule to help me make sense of everything and then I force myself to follow it. Oh and lots of coffee.

Tell us something no one knows about Dee?

I am terrified of birds. Especially pigeons, they’re evil lol.

What are your plans for the future?

Get better at photography.

Finally take us through a day in Dee’s life..

I wake up around 8:00 AM, throw something decent on, cover my dark circles, fill in my eyebrows, go to work, try to be productive, leave work to go to a brand meeting or an event, head home where I either spend time with my family, watch a movie/TV show/YouTube videos, answer emails or edit/post content for my online channels, eat, charge my cameras, remove my make up, then sleep.
