I had the pleasure of interviewing the gorgeous and lovely Mompreneur, Founder of Studio Dubai, Georgina Morton.
Georgina is a mother to her beautiful boy and the owner of the amazing & fun studio located in The Courtyard, Al Quoz.
Tell us something people don’t know about Georgina?
I have a fear of heights – which is unfortunate if you see how steep the staircase in the studio is!
What are the 5 most important things to you?
My well being
Making The Studio a success
What was your main inspiration?
My inspiration was simply wanting to share the unique location of the studio with others. I feel very lucky to work in such an amazing environment in Dubai and by opening one of the 2 studios we have up for family shoots meant this space could be shared for others to enjoy. Its amazing how many people are unaware The Courtyard exists yet it has been here for over 20 years.
How did the name “The Studio Dubai” come about?
Before it had a name it was referred to as The Studio and this stayed and it certainly leaves no room for confusion!
With such a busy schedule, how do you manage to stay in shape?
I have a fantastic gym walking distance from the studio (luckily also via the lime tree) – called strength where we do a small group class – so 3 times a week before work I can be found there lifting weights!
Any quick tips for getting ready on the go?
I have to admit I dress for comfort most of the time – we work in an industrial artistic environment which is fairly laid back and casual which suits me.
How do you maintain work life and time with your son? Do you set hours per week dedicated to The Studio Dubai?
Yes for sure – when I first started the Studio I came back to work part time and this was far too stressful as I spent my afternoons worrying about work and not giving quality time to my son – so even though we may have less time together its definitely more quality time – when im with him I am 100% with him…I also take him to school and pick him up so get to see him for a cuddle during the day ☺ but when im home I am home.
What are the main challenges you come across as a Mompreneur?
The pressure you feel from the balance is my main challenge – there are never enough hours in the day to achieve everything I want to
How do you go about fixing that?
Making sure I go into work everyday knowing I will be as productive as I possibly can be in the time I have and keeping to my agreement with myself that when I am home and with my family then that’s where my mind is too.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Allow yourself permission to enjoy and celebrate life – sometimes you can get so caught up in day to day responsibilities you forget to have fun and enjoy life too.
What’s your advice to mothers who want to start their own businesses?
Clearly define your boundaries for work and home life or both will suffer!
What do you do to unwind and relax?
Pay a visit to Sensasia Spa and cook – I love cooking
And finally take me through a day in Georgina’s life..
After a very early wake up call by 4 year old Oscar who doesn’t believe in the benefits of sleep for himself or anyone else….then pretty much a whirlwind of gym, work, pack lunches, school run until my favourite time of day when the house is quiet, class of grape in hand and its myself and the solitude of the kitchen.
